September 1939. As war breaks out, 10-year-old Shirley is evacuated to the countryside on what she’s told is “a little holiday.” Billeted at the eerie Red House with two lively boys and the reclusive Mrs Waverley, Shirley soon realises this strange new world will change her life forever.
