Lily and the Rockets

by Rebecca Stevens

It’s 1917. Lily works in a munitions factory by day, dodging shrapnel and fatigue. By lunchtime, she’s on the football field with her fellow factory girls, forming a team called the Rockets. A league soon follows. But when the war ends, their jobs—and their chance to play—are taken from them. Not for Lily. If playing with men is her only shot at being a goalie, then she’s ready to take it.
