In 1939, Solly in London and his cousin Bernie in Poland begin writing letters as war breaks out.
While Solly is evacuated to the countryside, Bernie is sent east for safety — only to end up in a Soviet labour camp. Despite the distance and danger, the cousins stay connected through their letters. Bernie eventually joins the Anders Army, fighting in Iraq and Italy, including the brutal Battle of Monte Cassino. But will he survive to build a new life beyond the war?
