Ronja the Robber’s Daughter

by Astrid Lindgren

Ronja is the only child of a feared robber chief, growing up among cliffs, forests, and the wild creatures that roam them—grey dwarves lurking in the shadows and harpies screeching through the skies. She knows how to survive in this untamed world. But nothing prepares her for the moment she meets Birk—the son of her father’s sworn enemy.

Their friendship sparks outrage, and the feud between their families threatens to tear them apart. Refusing to give each other up, Ronja and Birk make a bold choice: they escape into the forest to live on their own. As the seasons change and winter creeps in, they must rely on each other to survive—and hope that, somehow, the bonds they’ve formed will be stronger than the hatred they left behind.
