Zeraffa Giraffa

by Dianne Hofmeyr

This is the remarkable true story of Zeraffa, a giraffe sent from Egypt to France in 1826 as a gift for the King. Her young caretaker, Atir, travels with her on an extraordinary journey—by boat, by raft, and finally on foot across the French countryside. Crowds gather to catch a glimpse, and when they reach Paris, the city is enchanted. A special home is built for Zeraffa, and as she settles into her new life, Atir stays by her side, sharing stories of the land they left behind.
