Maria’s Island

by Victoria Hislop

Told through the eyes of Maria Petrakis, a child from the village of Plaka, this is the story of nearby Spinalonga – once Greece’s leper colony. As Maria learns about the island’s past, she also begins to understand the stigma faced by those with leprosy, and the importance of compassion for anyone who is treated as different.
