War and Peas

by Michael Foreman

King Lion is worried—there hasn’t been rain in his land for a very long time. The soil is dry and cracked, nothing will grow, and it’s too hard to dig. Hoping for help, he visits his wealthy (and rather round) neighbor, Fat King.
But things go terribly wrong. Mistaken for a beggar—and then a thief—King Lion is chased back home by Fat King’s army and supply trucks. Yet, as the heavy trucks rumble across the dry earth, they leave deep tracks behind. When the rain finally falls, the ground is perfectly tilled for planting.
It might have looked like war… but maybe it was something else entirely. Peace? Or perhaps… peas?
