Where the River Runs Gold

by Sita Brahmachari

In Kairos City, the privileged few live in comfort while the rest—like Shifa and her brother Themba—struggle to survive in overcrowded compounds, their lives controlled by the powerful organisation known as Freedom Fields.

With bees long extinct, children are forced to pollinate crops by hand. When Shifa and Themba are sent to a brutal farm, survival becomes a daily battle—especially for fragile Themba. Determined to save him, Shifa plans a daring escape. But with only a cryptic map drawn from a stranger’s mutterings, they have no idea where they’re headed.

Their journey is perilous, but Shifa trusts her instincts—and the power of love to lead them home. The fate of a nation may rest in their hands.
