Anna Hibiscus is spending her holiday with Grandmother and Grandfather in their village. She quickly makes friends with the local children, teaching them their ABCs and 123s.
One day at the market, a boy steals her banana—but when Anna catches him, she discovers he’s poor and living alone. The boy, Sunny Belafonte, becomes her friend, and when he falls ill, Anna makes sure he gets the help he needs. Soon, Grandfather invites Sunny to join their family and live with them in the village.
